Boards meet to talk over budget
Timaru District Council's community boards will meet this week to discuss the draft budget, showing a proposed district-wide rate increase of 3.67 per cent for 2014-15.
Last night Temuka Community Board discussed the budget, Pleasant Point Community Board will meet to discuss it tonight and Geraldine Community Board tomorrow.
This is before the Timaru District Council meets next Tuesday, not yesterday as previously reported, to ratify the budget. Two days have been set aside to debate the draft budget, which will result in the rates being struck.
The draft budget is calling for an overall collection of $48.923 million.
Last year the district's rates rose 4.78 per cent.
The draft budget, the result of hours of work by council staff, contains a number of big ticket items which will be examined carefully before being ratified by the council.
