It is estimated about 4000 people attended the 29th South Canterbury Vintage Car Club Winchester Swap Meet on Saturday.

With 320 stalls and 60 vintage and classic cars on display organisers said it was another success. Swap meet committee chairman Grant Mehrtens said the weather had held out until about 1.30pm.

"The rain did kill things a bit but we were lucky till then," Mehrtens said.

With a 7.30am start there was still plenty of time to peruse the many stalls.

First-time swap meet attendees Junette and John McIntyre from Rangiora said they enjoyed it.

"There was quite a bit of junk among the good stuff. I would return for the social side," Junette McIntyre said.

The total raised had not been calculated last night.
