Outstanding volunteers are about to be recognised for their work as the Timaru District community awards selection panel asks for nominations.

The Timaru District Council is holding the 16th Timaru District community awards in recognition of voluntary services. The selection panel comprises councillors Dave Jack, Peter Burt, and Steve Wills, with Mary Mitchell, Des Kearns, Jo Taylor and Bernie Wilson.

Mayor Damon Odey said volunteers were the backbone of our community. "(They) often fly under the radar so the 2014 community awards are a good opportunity to recognise volunteers' valuable contributions to our community."

Nomination forms can be downloaded from the Timaru District Council website timaru.govt.nz or can be picked up from one of the council offices in Geraldine, Temuka or Timaru. Nominations close at 5pm on Friday, May 16.
