A walnut tree in Geraldine is the centre of a war between neighbours.
Some of the tree's branches were cut by one resident yesterday as he attempted to relocate a house past the tree and on to his property.
However, two other neighbours, including the tree's owner, objected to his actions and asked him to stop.
Police were eventually called to the scene to settle the argument, Sergeant Graham Sharp, of Temuka police, said.
No charges have been laid
"There's nothing further the police want to add," he said.
It is not the first time the neighbours have disagreed. Earlier this year the residents, lawyers, police and council staff were involved in a dispute over property access, with common ground elusive.
That argument centred around boundaries and a paper road.
