Intersection to get roundabout
A roundabout is planned for Wai-iti Rd at the intersection with Morgans Rd and Barnes St.
Timaru District Council land transport manager Andrew Dixon said work on the roundabout would go ahead later in the year.
"We will need to wait for the warmer weather and hopefully complete it prior to Christmas, so start would be September."
However, this was subject to change, he said.
The council was not yet at the stage of consulting with residents but he believed there was general support for the roundabout.
"The impact on properties with this project is not great as existing property accesses are located clear of the intersection."
The estimated cost would be $250,000. Roundabouts can be more expensive than traffic lights to install because of the additional land required.
There was sufficient space at the intersection for a roundabout, which would be more cost-effective than traffic signals, Dixon said.
Construction was expected to take eight to 10 weeks.
