South Canterbury schools took to the stage this week performing at the annual regional Shakespeare festival.

This year the festival was hosted by Timaru Girls' High School, with five schools taking part.

For the third year in a row, Twizel Area School won the 15-minute piece section, for their performance of Henry VI.

The night's assessor, Annette Thomas from Avonside Girls' High in Christchurch, said the Twizel cast worked well together and showed strong commitment to their roles.

Craighead won the five-minute section for their performance of Macbeth.

Both groups will now represent Aoraki in their sections at the national festival in Wellington, held over Queen's Birthday Weekend.

Mountainview High School student Bailey Dunnage was selected to attend the national Shakespeare schools production. It's a residential programme which will be held at Otago Boys' High School in Dunedin.
