A Timaru woman's good deed has pleasantly surprised police.
On Thursday afternoon the woman found a wad of cash on the corner of Stafford and Canon streets and promptly took the $1000 of $20 notes to the police.
When police informed her that if the owner could not be found she could keep the money, she said she would prefer it was given to charity.
A few hours later a man noticed his empty pocket and was happily reunited with it. Police said the woman had been very generous with her desire to give to charity.
