Dancing with the Stars winner Lorraine Downes says the show's axing means New Zealand television has lost one of its few family shows.
TVNZ has axed the popular show for next year, citing the ''recessionary environment'' and the high costs of producing the show.
Downes, a former Ms New Zealand and 2006 winner, said losing the show was "really sad".
"It was one of the best experiences in my life and I just think that a lot of people really enjoyed the shows. It was just one of those great shows that the family could sit and watch together and there's not many of those shows around."
TVNZ corporate affairs spokeswoman Megan Richards said: ''The decision has been made, reluctantly, because the current market conditions do not support such an expensive show.''
It may, however, return in 2011, if market conditions improve significantly, she said.

What has Jason Gunn Done?
Hes vanished out of the spotlight. I dont believe for a minute that this has anything to do with any recession. This show was way too popular. Something has gone down and Gunns absence from our screens is the key.....Whats going on?
The last show was totaly missable from the 1/2 way mark. I stopped watching it. But otherwise, was the only watchable program TV1 had. Everything else they put up is garbage. So now, no reason ever to tune to TV1. If they went off the air, be even more cost saving, and unless I read it in the news, would never know. When we had to stop paying licence fees was a great day.
Less Jason Gunn and Candy Pain the better, good riddance to the worst show on TV....
What! What do we do now?? Gutted.
I would rather rub sand in my eyes than watch that boring junk. Why was it even aired in the first place? The only channels worth watching on TV are Prime, CI and Discovery.
what a great decision, now those useless voting companies won't be able to rip off the charities.......and we won't have to put up with fat old plodders trying to move around a dance floor.
Unfortunately it's probably going to be replaced with something equally as awful...and more than likely fronted by Jason Gunn <upchuck>

In a country the size of New Zealand, you can only do these types of progames a few times, goes with NZ Idol as well.

I'm actually really disappointed. I understand it wasn't to everyone's tastes, but I thoroughly enjoyed the show - and I can think of about a dozen other NZ-made 'reality' shows that are far more deserving of the axe than this one!
