Police searching for a missing German woman confirm that body found in forest is her.

Detective Inspector Dave Long said tourist Britta Kappel's body was found at Bottle Lake Forest Park near Christchurch at 10.30am.

He said there were no suspicious circumstances and her death had been referred to the coroner.

Kappel, 30, was last seen riding a black/blue and white Giant Boulder mountainbike.

An online profile for Kappel described her as a psychologist and "consultant for personal and organisational development".

It is understood she had been in New Zealand for the past three months.
