A German visitor, 60, escaped injury when the campervan he ws driving overturned on State Highway 8 near Lake Pukaki about 1.30pm.

No other vehicles were involved.

Police want to speak with a 38-year-old man accused of spitting in the face of a woman shortly before 5pm on Tuesday as she was sitting in a vehicle in the carpark of the Smithfield freezing works.

Police are investigating an incident in which a Timaru youth, 17, is accused of repeatedly punching a dog in the head at the Hilltop Dairy in Evans St about 6.30pm on Tuesday. The boy was not the dog's owner, police said.
