Victoria Police have identified a man and a woman filmed unleashing a racist and sexist tirade on a French tourist aboard a Melbourne bus.

The pair have not been arrested or charged, however, and police have not released details about who they are.

Fanny Desaintjores was called a c---, a dog and threatened with having her breasts cut off after she sang a song in her native language on the bus between Mordialloc and Caulfield on November 11. The incident, filmed by Melbourne comedian and bus passenger Mike Nayna, sparked outrage here and overseas after it went viral on YouTube.

Ms Desaintjores told Fairfax Media she feared she and her friends would be physically assaulted. It is believed she, or one of her group, has spoken to police.

Investigators are seeking further assistance to identify others in the footage and have urged other bus passengers to come forward.

Ms Desaintjores said a man she believed to be drunk told her and her friends to shut up - "probably because he did not know the song and did not understand the words".

She said her group did not hear the man's threats at first, so he began to yell and become more aggressive.

"I was sitting in the middle of the bus at the back, so he could stare at me while screaming," Ms Desaintjores said.

"I thought he was kind of joking at first and then I realised he wasn't kidding at all, so my friends and I stopped laughing. We were quite afraid that he [would come] and hit us."

A couple, a woman and a man, pushing a pram, also joined in. The man shouted: "I'll f---ing boxcutter you right now, dog" before being filmed getting off the bus.
