South Canterbury blade shearer Tony Dobbs is bringing home some hardware after placing third in the 16th Golden Shears world shearing and woolhandling championships.
Fairlie farmer Dobbs came out of a two-decade blade shearing retirement to join the competition held in Gorey, Ireland, over the last week. His final time shearing seven sheep was 17min 36.08secs, nearly 15 seconds behind the South African winner.
South Africa retained both the individual and team titles in blades shearing, but the other titles were shared between New Zealand, Scotland, England and Wales.
