Timaru's Mike Stapp was the best-performed local at the South Canterbury Open table tennis championships, winning the second grade singles.
Competitors from Southland, Otago, North Otago and Canterbury battled it out with the South Canterbury contingent in age group and open events.
In the open men's field Canterbury's Jesse Wilson, who was unseeded, upset top seed Michael Zhang from Southland, winning comfortably in four straight games 11-8, 11-4, 11-4, 14-12.
Zhang had beaten Wilson in pool play but a tougher draw paid off for Wilson on the way to the final.
The under-21 final was a repeat of the open final with Wilson coming out on top in an exciting contest 10-12, 11-4, 11-5, 7-11, 14-12.
Other highlights included 11-year-old Jiayi Zhou of Canterbury winning the under-21 women's singles, under-15 and under singles as well as two mixed doubles titles.
