Four Timaru Boys' High School players will face the South Canterbury Rugby Union judiciary next Wednesday.
The fallout comes after two sides from TBHS played each other in an under-14-and-a-half game on Saturday.
The Herald understands three players received yellow cards, and then one was upgraded to red after a player threatened the referee.
The union's review officer has considered the complaints arising from the game and recommended that a judicial hearing take place.
The school is also investigating the incident.
Rector Nick McIvor said TBHS and its sports community take the maintenance of high standards of conduct among players, coaches and supporters seriously.
