Rooney beaten to bronze in shoot-off
Timaru trap shooter Natalie Rooney went agonisingly close to a bronze medal at Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Rooney was beaten in a sudden date shoot-off by England's Caroline Povey after the pair were tied after both hitting 12 of the 15 scheduled targets.
Povey and Rooney were both successful with their first shot, but the English shooter then made her second and Rooney missed, to finish fourth.
Rooney had led in the bronze medal match-up early, 7-5, but dropped her 12th and 14th targets to allow Povey back in.
Earlier Rooney had held her nerve to make the shoot-off for the bronze medal, after three competitors were tied.
It also went to a sudden death but Rooney hit all three targets as the other two competitors dropped off.
