Roncalli College missed out on any silverware from the Crusaders Region Schools Championships when they were beaten 28-5 by Christ's College in the Press Bowl final.
That meant Roncalli finished 10th out of the 16 teams.
In the Press Cup final, Christchurch Boys' High School remained unbeaten for the season with a 24-13 victory over Nelson College.
It was the eighth time in 14 years Christchurch Boys' has won the overall title.
Timaru Boys' High School had earlier been beaten by the champion side in the their semifinal match to finish fourth.
In the Plate final (for fifth), Burnside High School beat St Andrews College 19-16.
Roncalli headed to Christchurch with high hopes, having drawn with Christ's in the round robin.
They were competitive in the first half and were only down 6-0 until Christ's scored off a clever front of the line-out move just before halftime.
In the second half, Christ's outplayed Roncalli, who were stretched at the breakdown and their usually competitive lineout struggled.
Roncalli were hampered by the fact they were missing both their goalkickers, so twice opted to run kickable opportunities in the first half.
Christ's also moved the ball well in the backs while Roncalli struggled to get any momentum.
For Roncalli, wing Aidan Barnes-Weber made a couple of breaks while prop Trent Roberts worked hard all game.
Lock Patrick Simpson made some good carries in the midfield as he tried to get his side going.
It was also a disappointing way for the side to farewell their passionate coach John Simpson, who has been with them for four years.
Former Timaru Boys' High School player Matt McKenzie tasted success with Auckland Grammar.
The second five was part of a Grammar side that brought St Kentigerns run of threes titles in a row to an end with a 31-26 win in Auckland's 1A First XV final.
