Timaru rowers off to a good start at Karapiro

Timaru rowers got off to a good start at the National Rowing Championships which started at Lake Karapiro yesterday.
As well as several crews already being guaranteed semi final slots, Timaru rower Fin Scott was named rower of the day. The award, presented by New Zealand Rowing's managers, recognised Scott's success in both the club single and light weight singles events in which he was competing well above his age.
Timaru Rowing Club results from yesterday were:
Men: Lightweight singles: Fin Scott 1; Club singles: Fin Scott 1; Club Four: Andrew Darling, George Proudfoot, Jeremy Gaskin and Stephen Burt, through to final; Club Double: Darling & Proudfoot and Gaskin & Burt through to semi finals; Under 21 single: Scot through to semi final, Club Quad: Darling, Proudfoot, Gaskin & Burt, will row in repechage today.
Women: Club quad: Victoria Walden, Sarah Boys, Kelly Thomas, Jaclyn Parker, placed fourth so will row in repechage today; Senior eight: Walden, Gilchrist, Dockrill, Boys, Parker, Toni Ruru, Ruby Kelly-Smith, Liz Ireland and cox Nicola Durie, 2nd and through to final; Lightweight doubles: Ruby Kelly-Smith and Nicola Durie, 4th and will row in repechage today; Club Four: Walden, Gilchrist, Dockrill, Boys and cox Durie; Ruru, Thomas, Parker, Ireland and cox Kelly-Smith; both crews placed second and will race in repechage events today;
Club double: Dockrill & Gilchrist through to semi final; Club 8: Walden, Gilchrist, Dockrill, Boys, Parker, Ruru, Ireland, Kelly Thomas, and cox Durie, 1.
