Great day on lake for rowers

The Timaru Rowing Club had a great first regatta for the year.
Rowing took place in near-perfect conditions at Lake Ruataniwha on Saturday and yesterday.
Both days started with overcast skies and then turned swelteringly hot.
Timaru enjoyed success with wins in the Boys under 17 double (Rush and Wilson Roncalli), Girls under 15 eight (Grant, Rowland, Shaw, Ford, Rush, Wilson, Brown, Austin, Roncalli), Girls under 17 quad (Chamberlain, Hamilton, Burtenshaw, Harrison, Dey, TGHS), Girls under 15 double (Engelbrecht and Taylor, Craighead), Girls novice quad (Hall, Smith, Wieth, Burtenshaw, Dey, TGHS) and Girls under 15 quad (Engelbrecht, Taylor, Fletcher, Morgan, Dobbs, Craighead).
The club's senior rowers faced some stern opposition and in some cases were rowing up a class.
Louise Livesey had a good final day in the single, the double with Abby Goodhew, and school mates Bruce and Dewe in the quad.
School leavers Jack Proudfoot, Brad Darling, Steven Burt and Mat Ryan were just pipped for first in the men's under 21 quad, and then joined up with four rowers from the Cure Club (Kaiapoi) to race a very competitive open eight.
A couple of good second and third placings augur well for the crews going into the racing season.
