The green machine of Craighead Rowing rolled on for another successful regatta at the South Island Junior Rowing Championships at Lake Ruataniwha at the weekend.
In the final outing for all crews before the Maadi Cup Secondary School Championships, the girls of the Craighead rowing squad showed that they were more than ready for the challenge ahead.
The day started with an excellent effort from the under-16 eight of Zoe Dobbs (cox), Mary Engelbrecht, Laura Gibson, Renee Derwin, Erica Taylor, Libby Barker, Laura Small Sarah McRobie and Surrey Collett racing up a grade in the under-17 eights, and bringing home a bronze medal.
The under-15 double of Engelbrecht and Taylor showed they were a class above the rest, winning eight seconds clear of the field.
Straight back on the water in the under-15 quad, Engelbrecht and Taylor teamed up with Chanel Fletcher, Jess Morgan and cox Beth McNeill to claim a silver medal in a close finish.
Continuing their hectic programme Engelbrecht and Taylor then joined Gibson and Derwin with cox Zoe Dobbs to pick up another bronze medal in the U16 quad.
Coaches Dean Milne and Sophie Gilchrist were pleased with the weekend's effort but recognised the challenges posed by a number of strong North Island crews who will be taking part in the Maadi Cup in two weeks' time. Herald correspondent
