Good workout for TBHS teams

Timaru Boys' High School visited Dunedin for its annual interschool with Otago Boys' High School recently to compete in First XI cricket, colts cricket and both junior and senior tennis.
The senior tennis team was successful in taking out their tie 7-5. Teams played doubles and singles and then reverse doubles and singles.
Ryan Ammar, George Gibson and Jesse Kempf won both their singles matches, with Kempf needing to win his match to take out the tie. He was one set down and 3-0 down in the second set but fought back bravely to take the match.
It was a good workout for the seniors as they approach the South Island Secondary Schools Tournament in Timaru this weekend. Coincidentally the boys play OBHS in the first round.
The junior tennis team fought bravely but lost a couple of close matches to lose the tie 8-4. Jack Gibson played well to win both his singles matches.
The colts' cricket team had trouble adjusting to two-day cricket and were guilty of not working for their runs and staying at the crease for a long period.
Batting first the colts managed only 97 with Daniel O'Brien leading the way with 48 runs. OBHS in reply compiled 224 showing the TBHS batsmen how to put together decent partnerships. Dan Mehrtens took three wickets and Max Carter bowled well without much success. In their second innings Boys' High improved slightly but were all out for 129, Sam Stowell top-scoring with 36. This left OBHS just two runs to win which they accomplished easily without the loss of a wicket. Herald correspondent
