Timaru cyclist Shane Archbold is training day to day with the pending announcement of Bike New Zealand team to the Commonwealth Games

Archbold has been in the United States with the wider squad and has a chance of making the team to India, which is expected to be announced on Wednesday.

For the 21-year-old it would be the biggest break in his burgeoning career.

For the past fortnight Archbold has been focusing on himself rather than what the selectors might do.

"I am currently in a strength phase of training, which is knocking the body around," he said.

"Obviously I'm hopeful I'll make the team but I haven't thought about it all, I have just been training head down and racing as hard as possible."

"I feel I am physically making great gains into the current [Olympic pursuit] A team but I'm no selector so I will let them do their job and I'll continue doing mine, which is training."

Archbold has been tasting some success.

He raced on the track last Friday in Kutztown and won the feature race.

"I surprised myself with how good I was going winning the big race for the night," he said.

In the miss-and-out race Archbold teamed up with American Shane Kline to win the 50-lap madison.

Archbold was just pipped for the omnium title by another American, Bobby Lea.
