Timaru cyclists join NZ team in France
Timaru's Olympic cyclists Marc Ryan and Shane Archbold have arrived in Bordeaux in the countdown to London.
The pair have joined the rest of the New Zealand team to put their final preparations together before heading to the Olympic Village next Wednesday.
Ryan, at his third Olympics, will ride in the team pursuit heats on August 2 and finals on August 3.
Archbold will ride the six-discipline omnium on August 4 and 5.
For Archbold it will be his first Olympic experience and he is delighted his family will be there to support him.
"I'm thrilled to have my parents and annoying sister coming to support me in London.
"It will be great to know they will be alongside me watching and cheering for me at the biggest event of my career."
He said he was glad his parents had the chance to see the world beyond Oceania, "that I have seen so much of at their expense".
"There is no doubt I'll be digging that little bit deeper to represent my family, friends, supporters and community to my biggest potential."
Ryan will be supported in London by his fiancee, Eve Anderson, whom he will marry next year.
