Two Timaru speed freaks head to the Bonneville Salt Flats this weekend chasing world records and hoping Kiwi ingenuity will see them succeed.

Dave Jackson is hoping to go 213.9 miles per hour in a Corvette powered by a five litre engine, while Craig Gilbert is targeting 236.5 miles per hour in the same car but with a bigger engine.

Their attempts will take place in about a week's time at Speed Week at Bonneville.
