The Timaru Boys' High School First XI football team have kept their first clean sheet of the season and prevailed 4-2 in a penalty shootout against Takapuna Grammar School at their national tournament in Nelson yesterday.
Stand-in goalkeeper Hooper Kelly-Smith proved to be an unlikely hero in the game. He saved a penalty during normal time and helped make sure Takapuna missed twice in the penalty shootout to secure victory.
Coach Gary Ivamy was pleased to get the win and keep a team scoreless in a game, but said his side missed three clear-cut chances to decide the game in normal time.
They will face Wellington's Scots College in the battle for 25th to 28th at the tournament today.
