The Timaru Boys' High School first XI hockey team will play off for seventh and eighth at the national Rankin Cup competition in Napier after falling 6-2 to St Andrew's College yesterday.
TBHS coach Ben Grant said his team started brightly through a drag-flick goal from B J Mason in the fourth minute. While they conceded an equaliser, they minimised the damage to 1-1 at halftime.
Grant said the warm day took its toll on his players, who were outplayed in the second half, despite an individual goal from Jethro Palmer.
TBHS will face Christ's College today, who they beat 1-0 in pool play. A seventh-place finish would see them avoid this year's winner in the group stages next year.
