The South Canterbury under-14 rugby team are Hanan Shield champions after a clean sweep of their opposition.
South Canterbury beat North Otago 32-17 in Oamaru with Jake Edwards scoring four tries and one from Ben Mitchell, who also converted two and landed a penalty.
Against Mid Canterbury tries to Cameron McCully, Jared Carey, Josh Sheehan made the score 15-0 at half-time.
Mid Canterbury replied with a converted try and then scored again for a tense final few minutes but South Canterbury came out on top 15-12.
Against Ellesmere Jake Norris scored early and Ben Mitchell converted for a 7-0 lead.
Bailey Wikiara, A J Clark and Lucas Rosewall all scored before halftime, with Mitchell getting two further conversions for a 26-0 halftime lead.
Ellesmere put up a much better defensive effort in the second half so the second half was scoreless leaving South Canterbury as Hanan Shield champions.
At the prizegiving a paper Hanan Shield team was named with 11 South Canterbury players included.
The team was: George Chapman (prop), Hunter Webb (prop), Lewis Murdock (hooker), Mason Jurasavich (lock), Josh Sheehan (loose forward), Jake Norris (loose forward), Jake Edwards (No 8), Conner Bradley(halfback), Thomas Mulligan (1st five), Cameron McCully (wing), Kaleb Hunt-Wheeler.
South Canterbury face Otago Country and Southland in their next tournament.
