Clash of the Super titans
Timaru is set to host a Super Rugby preseason game between the Hurricanes and Crusaders on Saturday, February 2.
The game will be at Alpine Energy Stadium, with a 3pm kick-off and tickets will go on sale in November.
Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder said they were genuinely excited to head back to South Canterbury for a game in the 2013 pre-season.
"The crowds in Timaru were fantastic when we played there during the 2011 Super Rugby season so we know we'll get plenty of good, vocal support.
"A dust-up with the Hurricanes is always a good game to watch as well, so I'm sure our South Canterbury fans will be treated to some thrilling footy."
South Canterbury rugby manager Cam Kilgour said they were delighted to be able to host a team like the Hurricanes.
"They have entertained in Super Rugby for years. With the players they have lined up for 2013 they will be one of the favourites to take out the title.
"But we all know the Super Rugby powerhouse the Crusaders are, and they will again be a top-four team so this pre-season game we are hosting will be definitely be one to see."
Kilgour said tickets would go on sale next month through TicketDirect.
"We are also grateful to Hamish Riach and the Crusaders as it is our 125th anniversary year and the perfect way to start the celebrations."
The Hurricanes finished the Super 15 eighth last year but were long in play-off contention with their entertaining style of rugby under coach Mark Hammett.
They will also be a big drawcard with All Blacks Conrad Smith, Cory Jane, Julian Savea and Beauden Barrett in their back line.
Timaru's Max Fowler-Burgess is one fan already looking forward to the game.
"I was born in the 'Naki; I've been a Hurricanes fan since I was small. They're going to roll the Crusaders by 50 points as they are just more classy than the Crusaders."
