Timaru Harrier Club's Jesse Gibbs has won the ‘Road to Hope' Marathon in Ontario, Canada.
Gibbs ran a personal best of 2 hours 31 minutes 38 seconds, six minutes quicker than in Christchurch two years ago.
It could have been better but Gibbs was hampered by slower half-marathon competitors on the walking track part of the course. More than 1200 took part in the charity-based marathon.
Gibbs had planned to run in the Toronto marathon a fortnight before but pulled out because of a virus. The 20-year-old is on a University of Otago exchange at Brock University.
