Paul Kelly and Melbourne-based Daniel Gaunt won the South Island Three Hour Endurance title after finishing third in the final round at Ruapuna.
The pair beat fellow title contenders and Porsche GT3 drivers Rick Armstrong and Mathew Hamilton across the line.
With 20 minutes remaining in the race, Gaunt was able to get past Hamilton. He wasn't confident of having enough fuel to last until the end but survived.
Both combinations were surprised by the new speed of the Ferrari 458 of Sam McNeill and Craig Innes, who put the car on pole and then dominated much of the race.
With a new aero kit fitted, the Italian marque was much quicker than at its debut round at Timaru earlier in the month.
The only car able to keep pace with the Ferrari was the GT3 of Jono Lester and Simon Ellingham, as both cars made a substantial break on the rest of the field.
Timaru's Chris West and Gavin Dawson finished runners-up in their Mitsubishi Evo 9 in the 2001-3500cc Class 2 category.
