The South Canterbury under-17 cricket team started their Canterbury tournament with a win over Metro White at Mandeville.
South Canterbury batted first and made 172 thanks to a well-compiled 50 not out from Jamie Trezise, with Lawrence Darling making 36 and Adam Beck 34.
Metro got to within 10 runs of South Canterbury, whose best bowler was Nick O'Brien, who took a five-wicket bag, bowling 10 overs for an economical 20 runs. Michael Lees and Josh Mehrtens grabbed two each.
