Geraldine's Marion Patrick and Kate Reay won a tight battle to take out the South Canterbury Centre Pairs Championship title, 14-13, on an extra end.
In hot conditions at the Temuka Bowling Club, they faced Kia Toa's Sharon Leonard and Kay Gill in the final.
The Kia Toa duo were unlucky to lose after leading for three-quarters of play but the experienced Patrick and her partner clawed their way back into the match. By the 14th end, they had drawn level.
In the next two ends, both teams scored one shot, resulting in an extra end. The win was still there for Kia Toa as they held shots, until the last bowl by Patrick wiped away their hopes.
In the first semifinal, Leonard outplayed the experienced Pat Parker and Shirley Whyte, with the Kia Toa team winning 19-9.
In the other semifinal, Patrick faced the highly fancied Cathy Richards and Mary Lemon.
Richards surged ahead leading up until the 15th end, with the score at 18-15. However, on the extra end, with the win in sight, they conceded four shots and lost the opportunity for another final.
Seven pairs had qualified for post-section play.
