The South Canterbury year 7 and 8 cricket team earned a nervous one-wicket win over a Canterbury Country side at their Canterbury District's tournament, yesterday.
An all-round team effort restricted Canterbury Country to 79 all out in 27 overs.
All eight South Canterbury bowlers took a wicket with Stuart Williams (two for five) and Charlie Martin (two for 19) the pick of the bowlers.
Despite the low score to chase, three early run outs immediately put the visitors on the back foot.
As the wickets tumbled their tiny target appeared further away.
At 62 for nine all hope appeared to be lost for South Canterbury, but some stubborn batting from Luke McRae and No 11 Martin eased them past their target.
At the end of their 40 overs, South Canterbury finished on 95 for nine.
The 33-run last wicket stand provided more than half the team with their first representative win.
