Young athletes from the South Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club are getting in some group training before the South Island Colgate Games competition coming up next weekend.
The athletic championships are for children aged 7 to 14 competing in track and field events.
The Colgate Games start on Friday, January 17 and run for three days at Aorangi Park.
New Zealand track and field selector and coach Don Garland said there will be around 1000 competitors primarily from athletic clubs across the South Island but some from the North Island as well.
This will be the last junior morning competition for the 14-year-olds before they move on to the higher age-group events. From this, competitors will be selected to compete in the provincial team for the interprovincial competition, where they will get an athletic seeding.
