Emele very impressive
The South Canterbury Speed Skating Club Open Championships produced clear winners in most grades over the weekend.
Timaru-based German Alex Emele was again in impressive form leading into New Zealand Bank Track Championships in Timaru.
Timaru's Guy McDonald tried to match him but Emele was too slick in the intermediate and open races.
In the women's events, Martina Karabova and Nicole Begg won senior titles, while the men's senior titles went the way of Jonathan Swindells. Analiese Le Roy and Dahna Penty shared the women's intermediate titles.
Temuka's Tyler Smith repeated her effort at the nationals by winning all four junior races from the 300m time trial to the 5000m.
Jan Kuepper couldn't quite make a clean sweep of the junior boys but took three titles, with Nick Frame taking out the 1000m.
In the juvenile girls, Ella Benson also took three of the four titles on offer and Keaton Swindells won the overall juvenile boys title.
The club hosts the South Island and New Zealand Open Bank Track Championships over the next two weekends.
