Craighead claims first Timaru gold

A Craighead team has won Timaru's first gold at the Maadi Cup secondary school rowing regatta.

The under-15 coxed quad of Jessica Martin, Olivia Hughes, Maddi Palmer, Sarah Templeton and cox Keren Wright have won gold on Lake Ruataniwha this morning.

After qualifying second fastest for their final, the crew took control of the race from the 500m mark and never looked back winning by more than seven seconds in a time of 7.38.99.

Earlier, the Timaru Boys' High School under-15 double of Brad Cvitanich and Finlay Joyce were eighth in their final that was convincingly won by Whakatane High School.

The Roncalli College girls under-17 coxed quad of Libby Davenport, Kate Shaw, Laura Cockroft, Abby McIlroy and cox Olivia Cockroft managed sixth in their final.

While the Timaru Boys' High school under-18 novice double of Taylor Worthington-Thin and Cameron Hayes finished sixth in their final.
