Magpies need good tidings
Some budding young Magpie rugby players could have their wings clipped unless the can add to their tiding.
The Temuka under-10s need at least 13 players and are four short of making a team every Saturday. The grade plays with 10 in a team but there is the need for reserves, with players away on occasions.
Temuka JAB president Roger Wilson is hoping a few extra players come forward.
They have tried their usual catchment of Winchester, Arowhenua, Temuka and St Joseph's primary schools without any luck.
"Perhaps a parent can persuade a child to have a go or they may come from somewhere else. If we can't, the kids won't be lost to rugby but they wil be split up with some going up a grade and some down."
Wilson said that was not ideal as the team above already has 20 players and the one below had 12.
"Three players would make the difference really as then they get to play every Saturday."
The team is coached by Mark Armstrong and managed by his wife Nicole.
Nicole said the players had come through the grades together and played well as a team. "It would be gut-wretching to split them up really."
Temuka has teams in every other JAB grade and combines with Geraldine in the under-12 and 13.
