The Timaru Rowing Club have shown they punch above their weight, winning a medal of each colour on the final day of the national rowing championships.
Lake Karapiro proved the perfect place for the under-19 women's double of Louise Livesey and Abi Goodhew to pick up gold, proving their dominance over their rivals for the regatta.
The fifth place finish in the same event of Sarah Bruce and 15-year-old Heather Livesey should not be underestimated, considering the inexperience.
The senior women's club quad of Louise Livesey, Abi Goodhew, Kim Dewe and Sarah Bruce, picked up silver, while the men's under-21 eight of Jack Proudfoot, Brad Darling, Stephen Burt and Matt Ryan, along with four rowers for the Cure Rowing Club in Rangiora combined for third in their final.
In other results, Louise Livesey finished fourth in the women's club single, the men's under 21 quad of Proudfoot, Darling, Burt and Ryan came fourth in their final and the senior open eight struggled having to back up from their under-21 eight win, just one race earlier.
Peter Burt from the Timaru Rowing club said the results were very pleasing.
The under-19 double and under-21 eight medals were particularly satisfying, but the results showed the club had plenty of talent for the future, he said. He believed the national had been the best warm-up possible for the Maadi Cup, where rowers will compete at their secondary school age-group level.
