The Dave Hanson-skippered team of Wayne Youngman, Noel Williams and Leo Leonard from Kia Toa proved too tough, easily winning the South Canterbury Champion of Champion fours bowls title 23-8 over the Timaru Town and Country Club.
Played on the Ashbury green in tricky conditions, with thunder, lightning and rain, Hanson's team got away to a flying start with his front men drawing some beautiful shots to lead 8-2 against Frank Good, Peter Hamel, Dick Brennan and Les Greaves.
Good's team were a bit off their game and whenever they looked like scoring Hanson would spoil it with excellent bowls.
After a rain break for 10 minutes, Greaves was playing some beautiful draw shots for Good but he wasn't getting the support from his team-mates while Williams was finding his game.
At a crucial end Hanson led 11-2 and Good tried to run a shot bowl out for three but got the jack, which bounced off hitting three bowls.
The result left Hanson holding three and he calmly drew another to lead 15-2.
Good's team tried to get back in the game and scored a three, with two beauties from Greaves and Good and then added another to claw their way back to 15-6.
On the next end Good held one shot, but Hanson replied brilliantly to sit shot bowl out for four, with both Youngman's bowls counting. Hanson trailed the jack on the next end to score another four to run out easy winners, 23-8.
The win gave Williams his gold star and took Hanson and Leonard to 14 titles. Youngman now has nine centre titles, all from fours championships.
