With a storm looming, James Archbold from St Andrew's Cycling Club stole first place in Thursday's 16km race.

Just 21 riders braved the weather, and Archbold rode strongly with John Edmondston and Sam Thomas.

The trio caught the 13 ahead of them and in the sprint for the line they finished first second and third respectively. Archbold recorded 23m 59s.

Eli Edmondston, the lone scratch rider, was unable to bridge the gap to the break riders. The trio of Jeff Best, Bill Gibbs and Ian Kirkman took fastest time of 23m 45s. Herald correspondent
