The Timaru Town and Country Bowling Club had no luck at the women's Southern Zone Interclub 7s, finishing fifth.

Teams from Dunedin, Southland, North Otago, Central Otago, South Otago and South Canterbury played at the Centre Greens in Timaru, but Central proved too strong.

In the singles, Shirley Whyte had two wins and two losses for South Canterbury, although all games were close. She was unlucky to miss out against Central Otago who squeezed past her 21-20.

In the pairs, Cathy Richards and Mary Lemon had four good wins, showing their class among top players, missing out only to North Otago.

The fours team was skippered by Pat Parker, the recently crowned centre singles champion, with Madeline Willetts (2nd), Jenny Young (3rd) and Maureen Thompson (lead). The fours had only one win but were unlucky to lose to Central Otago 20-19. Herald correspondent
