Giving back what you get out of sport is the philosophy for one new Gleniti Golf Club life member.
Hazel Brunton has been a member of the club since 1973, and her efforts both on and off the course saw her receive a life membership at a special meeting, in front of club members.
Brunton said she was delighted to receive the award.
She described herself as "an everyday club member".
The 11-time senior club champion said a life-long love of sport kept her motivated to keep "giving back" as much as she could.
Brunton used to play off a five handicap and has held the course record at both Pleasant Point and Gleniti golf clubs
Being a former South Canterbury representative, Brunton said she always enjoyed passing on her knowledge to new players. "I took an interest in the new players. If you are a good golfer you should pass those things on to new players."
Brunton said she was proud of her three holes-in-one she had managed over the years.
She took up the game at 29, four months after the birth of her eldest son. Brunton believed people must continue to get involved with their club behind the scenes as much as possible.
My attitude to life and golf is put back in what you take out.
"You don't just come along and play golf and go home and not care about what's going on around you."
