Timaru Boys' High School has a couple of secret weapons in its bid for further success at the Maadi Cup rowing championships.
Next week identical twins Cameron and Russell Crampton, 15, will compete at their second Maadi Cup regatta at Lake Ruataniwha, near Twizel, with high hopes of winning a couple of medals this year.
Having won a bronze in the under-15 four last year, the pair will compete in at least five events this year.
Cameron said his best chance of a medal would come in the under-16 quad, while Russell's best chance would be in the under-17 four.
The twins' height and strength could see them progress to bigger and better things in the sport.
Cameron said the three hours of training a day, combined with a strict diet in the weeks leading up to the event, was worth it.
He said he was the strength of the duo, while Russell said he was more technically sound.
They said they would like to progress to row for New Zealand in the future, and had not ruled out the possibility of rowing together in a double, something they have not done competitively.
Coach Brian Smith said the twins had the potential to be selected for national squads, thanks to build and work ethic.
He said TBHS was sending a squad of 11 to the event, and would like to improve on early-season form.
The school finished 14th on the medal table last year with two medals.
