For the second time in a week, a West End Bowling Club team was successful at a South Canterbury champion of champions bowls event.
Leeanna Leslie and Olive Welford claimed the pairs title to go with the men's win at the triples earlier in the week.
After shrugging off a slow start in their opening round game against Pleasant Point, the pair quickly found their rhythm, eventually winning 16-13.
Their quarterfinal match against Timaru Town and Country Club showed how well Leslie and Welford complement each other's games, as they eased to a 20-11 win.
The well-performed Geraldine combination of Bet Prattley and Pam Shirtcliff proved tougher opponents in the semi-final.
With immaculate bowls from Welford and the blue bowls of Leslie taking shot when required, West End were able to win 12 of the 18 ends, which was reflected in the 21-14 final score.
The Waimate pairing of Rosina Beker and Sue Kelly had battled past a gallant Aorangi pair 19-18, in a match where both teams went shot-for-shot for the entire match.
In what was a close final, the younger Waimate pair held their own for most of the match against their more experienced opponents.
With the score at 11-all after 11 ends, the West End pair showed their class and inched ahead, taking crucial shots when they needed to. Their 17-15 win was well-earned and well-deserved.
