Timaru driver Chris Small will have to be on the lookout for a familiar foe at Ruapuna Raceway this weekend.

Small will be keen to extend his lead in the Saloon Car Series heading into next weekend's round at his home track at Levels raceway.

To do it, he will have to watch out for old rival, Neville Stowell who, has been dominant when he has raced in his Nissan Skyline, since debuting in the car in 2007.

Small in his Mitsubishi EVO will have to contend with one of the largest fields this season.

Nineteen cars will be racing at the weekend.

Two months have elapsed since the last round of the series took place in early January.

Stowell won two of the three races that January weekend, but Small was able to extend his lead in the championship.

Temuka's Stan Moore will also be looking to continue the good form he showed the last time he raced the saloons at Ruapuna, when he was named driver of the round.

Small will be keen to extend his lead for the final two rounds of the series, which will both be held at Levels Raceway.

The penultimate round will be held next weekend. Herald correspondent
