Having an All Black in the family has helped boost Ruby Harper's fundraising efforts to play basketball in Australia.
When No 8 Kieran Read heard his young first cousin had made the South Island development team he managed to persuade his All Blacks team-mates to sign a ball to support her.
So prior to their game against South Africa, Reid got 18 All Blacks to sign the ball including Dan Carter.
The game was also special as it was the first time the All Blacks had played in the new Forsyth Barr Stadium.
Harper needs $3300 for her trip so is putting the ball up to the best bid received by the Timaru Herald.
Harper said her classmates at Roncalli were keen to touch the ball and admitted it was great having Read as her cousin.
"He is really cool and we meet up at all the family occasions.
"Kieran also comes and sees his grandma who lives in Timaru."
Read has previously supported schools his cousin has attended with the likes of a signed Crusaders jersey.
Seven South Canterbury junior basketballers are on the "Pacific Coast Tour" and they travel to Port Macquarie, via Sydney, on an 11-day tour in January. Harper will play at guard for the under-15 girls.
To place a bid either email email@example.com or text 0274 378896. Bidding closes at 4pm on Friday, October 5.
