Grab the Great Lake

Cheap airfares and winter deals make Great Lake Taupō the ideal place for a holiday this August.

With school holidays over and spring not far away, $49 Taupō flights,  plus amazing deals on activities, dining, accommodation and shopping in the town centre, make booking an August winter holiday good sense.

With Air New Zealand’s Grabaseat, Destination Great Lake Taupō’s (DGLT) Grabit campaign puts 400 flights between Auckland, Wellington and Taupō on sale at $49. There are also hundreds of deals on accommodation, dining, activities and shopping on the Grabit website.

“Not only can visitors travel at a great price, they can enjoy off-season discounts on their accommodation, activities and dining choices. It makes for a very economical holiday which in the current market is appealing to lots of travellers”, says DGLT Marketing Manager, Donna Jarden.

“It’s a perfect time to try out the region’s signature activities like the Hukafalls Jet at $79, or for the family to learn to ski, hire gear and go sight-seeing on the chair-lift all for $299. The whole family can stay and dine at Suncourt Hotel for $139 per night or book a Superior Lodge at Taupō DeBretts and swim in the hot pools all day for $199. For a real high-light how about conquering the Tongariro Alpine Crossing with Adrift Outdoors for $155 per person?”

Mt Kenya’s Laikipia Plateau rolls to the edge of the Great Rift Valley – the cradle of mankind and the home of free-roaming wildlife including elephants, lions, antelope, zebra, painted dogs and black rhino. They’re captured in brilliant images by Golden Bay-based photographers Tui de Roy and Mark Jones in a collection called Kenya’s High Country, published by Bateman, $69.99, which will fuel your wanderlust and wildlife awareness.
