Wellington in world's top cities for 2015
Wellington continues its reign as one of the world's most desirable travel stops after placing sixth in the Rough Guides Top 10 city destinations for 2015.
Joining the likes of Hamburg, Birmingham, New Orleans and No 1 city Johannesburg the travel guide publishers said Wellington tourism was buoyed by the draw of big-budget films like Sir Peter Jackson's Hobbit movies.
As Wellington celebrated its 150th year as capital the guide said the city was "giving visitors plenty of reasons to stick around".
"There's a real buzz about the city's cafe scene and smart new craft-beer bars are bubbling up across the city," it says.

The guide also praised Te Papa – the National Museum – which is "packed with treasures from across the Pacific".
"Highlights include the elaborate feather cloak that was given to the English explorer James Cook in Hawaii"
Wellington Mayor Celia Wade-Brown said the accolade proved again the capital was an "incredibly desirable place – it's got great food, outdoors and culture and it's really easy to get around" .
