50 Best Places to Travel in 2017 include Queenstown
Queenstown has been named as one of the 50 Best Places to Travel in 2017 by leading travel magazine Travel + Leisure.
The magazine suggests two new places to stay in New Zealand's "adventure capital": "Bed down at boutique Hulbert House, with six suites in an 1888 Victorian villa, or the 69-room QT Queenstown, which is slated to land on the shores of Lake Wakatipu this year."
T + L also says those who have previously travelled here for adrenaline rushes have a new treat in store – the Nevis Thriller, coming early in 2017. "Details are sparse, but its creator, the AJ Hackett company, says it will combine "speed, height, and flight". The New Zealand Government has given half a million dollars to the new venture.
AJ Hackett Bungy already operates two activities above the Nevis River. The 134m Nevis Bungy is the highest bungy jump in New Zealand and is described as "not for the faint-hearted". Visitors can also experience the Nevis Swing, which the company says is the most famous swing in the world.
"After being lifted out above the launch deck, suspended 160 metres above the canyon floor, you're suddenly released and find yourself rushing towards the other side of the valley at 120kph, eyes wide open in disbelief or shut tight in fear."
Other attractions mentioned in the 50 Best Places list include Noosa Heads and Perth in Australia. See the full list here.
