Like the blessed boomerang, Aussie tourists just keep coming back: they've made New Zealand their top destination for a same-cation.

New research from Hotels.com found Australians are opting to return to the same holiday destinations - often with the same people at the same time of year.

New Zealand beat destinations like the UK, USA and Thailand to top the list of international destinations Aussies have been back to multiple times in the past five years. One in five Aussie women who like to “same-cation” have been to New Zealand while 15 per cebt of Aussie men have “same-cationed” here.

The research found that despite claims of being adventurous travellers, three in five (60 per cent) Australians have returned to at least one holiday destination multiple times in the past five years.

Further emphasising the same-cation concept, the research found that two in five (40 per cent) Australians like to travel with the same people; one in five (20 per cent) like to book the same accommodation; more than a quarter (29 per cent) like to travel with the same airline and a quarter (25 per cent) take their holidays at the same time of year every year.

Katherine Cole of Hotels.com says: “We’ve seen the stay-cation and nano-break during the past few years and now we have a new trend – the same-cation.”
