New Zealand Travel 2013 Photographer of the Year Mike Hollman was asked by CNN Go website to name some of his favourite spots to shoot in the South Island, and of the 14 places he listed, five are found in South Canterbury's high country.

Lupins dotting roadsides, to the Church of the Good Shepherd in Tekapo, the Southern Alps, the icebergs on Lake Tasman, and Aoraki/Mt Cook all featured.

Other places chosen by Hollman included Milford Sound, the Moeraki boulders, and the Waimakariri River.
